everybody stares
so I hide out in the corner
but I hardly even fit there

I dreamed that I had five fingers to my hand
I dreamed I only had two eyes to see
I dreamed I looked in the mirror and all I saw was me
I heard there was a secret chord
but upon asking further I didn't get a word
I heard that there are great mountains to climb
but I'm quite content knowing there are things I don't need to find
I saw with my very own eyes
I saw the ocean beginning to rise
I saw the key that fits in the door
but I tried it already and now I'm not so sure

I awoke from a dream
when I was only five
where I was a tall tree
off the Pacific coastline
my branches reached far
and covered with leaves
but I was not alone there
I had my friends all around me
and when I arrived there
at the age of eighteen
I climbed a tall tree
and I felt complete
a girl I met at school
taught me how to love
and she loved me too
and the city lights filled us
when I got back from New York
I found a beautiful home
two years later I left
and we were both so alone
now sometimes I feel lonely
sometimes I want to die
but when I look at the ocean
I remember why I love being alive
